Jonathan E. Efron, MD (Colonic Surgery)

Dr. Jonathan E. Efron is the recipient of the Mark M. Ravitch, M.D. Endowed Professorship in Surgery and leads the Department of Surgery’s Colorectal Service as well as serving as the Executive Vice Chair for the Department. He is a Professor of Surgery and Urology at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Efron received his B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College and his medical degree from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine in Baltimore. He was a resident in General Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and then completed a Clinical Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Florida. He was a staff surgeon at both the Cleveland Clinic Florida and the Mayo Clinic in Arizona and held the rank of Associate Professor at the Mayo Clinic prior to moving to Hopkins. His research interests include the management of rectal cancer and improving quality outcomes in patients undergoing colorectal surgery.
