Background: The FACE-Q skin cancer module: a psychometric validated questionnaire that measures both patient quality of life and satisfaction with surgical experience for patients undergoing surgical procedures for facial skin cancers. The module consists of five scales that address constructs identified to be important to facial skin cancer patients. For this study, the FACE-Q Skin Cancer Module scales addressing appearance were used: Satisfaction with Facial Appearance and Appraisal of Scar.

Methods: We evaluated the patient satisfaction by using standardized (FACE-Q questionnaire) patient questionnaire.

Results: Patients who had small to medium sized facial defects following excisions of skin tumours using the Island pedicle flap for defect closure by a single surgeon. Total number of cases was 48 cases with an almost even sex distribution (25 males vs. 23 females). We find that 75% of patients were Satisfaction with Facial Appearance by (82% to 100%), 19% of patients were stratified by (71% to 82%), and 6% of patients were stratified by (93% to 100%). For the Appraisals of Scars 79% of patients were Satisfaction by (82% to 100%), 17% of patients were stratified by (71% to 82%), and 4% of patients were stratified by (93% to 100%).

Conclusions: IPF is a random pattern advancement flap which offer a versatile and dependable tool for reconstruction of a variety of facial defects. It can provide excellent cosmetic results and high results of patient satisfaction.
